Bomb rocks Philippines
PHILIPPINES: A bomb explosion rocked a restive town in
southern Philippines on Sunday morning, police said.
The blast from an improvised explosive device happened at 6:30 a.m.
in Poblacion village of Shariff Aguak town in Mindanao’s Maguindanao
province, said the regional police chief, Chief Superintendent
Bienvinido Latag.
Latag said the explosion which occurred near a public elementary
school damaged a store but did not cause injuries.
The incident happened two days before the first anniversary of the
Maguindanao massacre, a political mass killing allegedly carried out by
a powerful political clan in the province against its rival in May’s
elections.
