Martinez knocks out Williams
Argentina’s Sergio Martinez knocked out American Paul Williams with
one explosive second-round punch Saturday to retain his World Boxing
Council middleweight world title.
The left hook caught Williams on the jaw and sent the American
toppling face-first to the canvas for the count at 1:10 of the second
round.
India’s Paes and Bhupathi reunite
Famed Indian doubles pair Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi will team
up again at the Australian Open in January, ending a nine-year
separation on the circuit.
The return of the duo, nicknamed the ‘Indian Express’ was announced
by Bhupathi on his Twitter page, sparking celebrations in India’s tennis
fraternity.
Coach warns swim star Park
The coach of South Korean swimming star Park Tae-Hwan has warned the
Olympic champion against complacency after his triple gold at the Asian
Games, saying tougher challenges are ahead.
Park won the 100 metres, 200m and 400m freestyle events in a stunning
performance in the Guangzhou pool.
Gambhir leads India in ODI serirs
India’s national selectors on Saturday named left-handed opener
Gautam Gambhir as captain for the upcoming first two one-day
internationals against New Zealand.
Regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and other senior players,
including Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, were rested. |
