Driver with heroin gets RI, fine

A van driver who pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing and
trafficking heroin weighing not less than one gram was sentenced to two
years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 in default one year
imprisonment.
Dinesh Anurada of Panadura was indicted by the Attorney General.
State Counsel Wasantha Perera said the Police found the heroin while
examining the van.
Perera does not have previous convictions.
Meanwhile, a drug trafficker who pleaded guilty to a charge of
possessing and trafficking heroin not less that one gram was sentenced
to two years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 in default two
years imprisonment.
The sentence was suspended for 10 years as he is a first offender.
The accused M Sarath of Piliyandala was indicted by the Attorney General
with possessing and trafficking heroin.
State Counsel Wasantha Perera prosecuted. |
