Manipay students get school goods

Sixty-six schoolchildren at Manipay, Jaffna district received textbooks to learn Tamil and Sinhala languages and a satchel with school items last week.

A ceremony chaired by Commander 513 Brigade Colonel Pradeep Silva was held at Uduvil Sanguveli Government School in Manipay to distribute books, pens, boxes of mathematical sets, colour pencils, stationeries and other items.

The donation for the students in three schools in the area was organized by SLFP Co-ordinator A Ravikumar of Manipay. The ceremony was held to mark the swearing-in of President Mahinda Rajapaksa on November 19 for his second term in the Office. Meanwhile, nearly 100 Margosa plants were distributed among selected families in Uduvil and Manipay in support of the Government's 1,100,000 tree planting campaign.

The Ninth Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard provided lunch to students and other participants which included Hindu priests, teachers, parents and Army personnel.
