A special Muslim religious Duwa blessings
on the commencement of the second term of office of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa and to celebrate his 65th birthday was held at
the Jumma Mosque in Maradana yesterday. Here Economic

Rev Fr Sextus Kurukulasuriya conducting a
thanksgiving service held at All Saints church, Borella
yesterday to invoke blessings on President Mahinda Rajapaksa on
his birthday and second term swearing in ceremony. Parish Priest
Rev Fr Felician Ranjith also participated. The service was
organised by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Professionals
Association under the initiative of Western Province Governor
Alavi Mowlana. Association’s Assistant Secretary Hemasiri

JAVA world congress and exhibition
The JAVA World Congress and Exhibition 2010 organized by Java World
Congress Secretariat,National Languages and Social Integration Ministry
and Technology and Research Ministry for the first time will be held on
November 19,20 and 21 at the Exhibition and Convention Centre and the
Taj Samudra Hotel. The theme of the conference is integrating ICT to
build and strengthen social capital to achieve the Millennium
Development Goals.
Computer Software, Education and Samurdhi Viskam exhibition will also
be held on November 19, 20 and 21 at the SLECC.
Unauthorized fishing nets seized
Puttalam group corr.
A large number of unauthorised nets laid in the Inginimitiya
reservoir by some inland fishermen were seized by the Provincial
Fisheries Ministry flying squad during a raid on November 13. A large
number of fishermen belonging to six fishermen's unions assisted the
officers by deploying 25 boats during the raid.
ECG monitor invented

A special Electrocardiography (ECG) monitor with all features has
been invented by the Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern
Technology(ACCIMT).
Over 95 percent work has been completed.
It was tested at the General Hospital and the Kalubowila hospital.
The PC Based Electrocardiogram was invented at a low cost.
Future data analysis and different recording modes are available in
the system.
This low cost technology will be introduced to Government hospitals,
ACCIMT sources said.
Estate houses gutted

Twelve houses belonging to St John Tillerie Estate, Norwood were
gutted by a fire. The inmates of those houses were placed temporarily at
the tea factory.
The incident occurred Monday and 47 occupants of those houses were
affected.
The fire was due to a leakage in the electricity supply line.
Illicit brewers nabbed

Eight suspects running, an illegal brewery in the Mahamodera area in
Galle district were arrested by Police on last Tuesday night. They were
able to recover 100,000 drams of goda and kasippu during the raid and
the suspects were taken into custody following a tip off. They also
recovered a stock of copper wires and two kilograms of sugar.
Free medical clinic and blood donation
A free medical clinic and blood donation campaign will be held at the
Cooperative Hall, Urubokka on Saturday, November 20, 2010 to mark the
inauguration of the second term of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
It is organized by ‘Arogya’ supplement of the Dinamina newspaper
published by ANCL.

A Sanghika Dana with Atapirikara to the Ven Maha Sangha of the
Kegalle Abhayabhumi Tapowana Hermitage has been organized by the YMBA
along with a special program for the inmates of Kegalle Buddha Jayanthi
Children’s Home on November 20, 2010 to bestow merits on late P B G

Concert
The 20th Annual Concert of Kingston College International (Mutwal
Branch) Primary Section will be held on Friday, November 19 at Maradana,
Elphinstone Hall, presided by College Chairman Dr J Kumaraverl.
Pirith ceremony
An allnight pirith ceremony to mark the swearing in of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa and invoke blessings on him will be held at the Kandy
District Secretariat today from 8 pm. It is jointly organised by the
Central Provincial Council, Kandy District Secretariat and the Gangawata
Korale Divisional Secretariat.
Religious ceremonies
P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya
Religious ceremonies are being held in all religious places,
including Hindu temples to invoke blessings of the deities on President
Mahinda Rajapaksa at his assumption of office as the Executive President
for the second term today, and also coinciding his 65th birthday.
A special pooja and Yagna is conducted at the Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Deesvarar Temple and Sri Gayathiri Peedam throughout the day under the
auspices of organizers and President Sri R K S Chandramohan.

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Association of Sri Lanka will present a
benefit show, Mamamia on Saturday November 20 at the Regal Theatre at 9
pm.
