Haj in Jaffna
The Haj festival was celebrated by the Muslims in Jaffna in the
mosques with devotion. This festival has been celebrated after 30 years
in Jaffna. Special prayers were held in mosques attended by a good
number of Muslims who are resettled in Jaffna. This is a unique occasion
for all of us to meet and pray together for the redemption of our
community, said those who came to pray.
OPD opened till 8 pm
The Out Patients Department (OPD) of Jaffna Teaching Hospital is
functioning from 7 am to 8 pm, said Jaffna Teaching hospital Director Dr
Bavani. This arrangement is followed in accordance with the instructions
of the President and Health Ministry directive.
Fraudsters rounded up
Four persons who duped parents of those in detention camps have been
rounded up by the Kilinochchi police and produced in Kilinochchi court.
The four men had promised to get the release of those in detention
posing as Army Majors. They had obtained Rs 10,000 each from several
persons and assured the release of those in detention. The Kilinochchi
Magistrate ordered to remand all of them for two weeks.
Symposium and exhibition
With the view to encourage investment by industrialists in Jaffna an
exhibition of industrial machineries was opened by Traditional
Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda
at Veerasingham hall in Jaffna.
Cottage Industries Development President Uthayasri said the objective
of the exhibition was to help Small scale cottage industries in Jaffna.
He said the Atchuvely Industrial centre will be restarted. Permission
for this has been given by the cabinet and Rs 174.6 million has been
received as foreign aid. The Government has allocated 25 million for the
re-starting of Atchuvely Industrial centre.
Industrial machines from the North and South were exhibited at the
exhibition. A symposium on cottage and small scale industries was also
