President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday cut the world's largest milk
rice prepared by veteran Chef of the Mount Lavinia Hotel Dr Publis Silva
on the occasion of President Rajapaksa's 65th birthday at the
Independence Square premises in parallel to the Nidahasa exhibition
organized by the Media and Communication Ministry.
This milk rice is made of 1,200 kg of rice, 300 kg of cashew and
sultana, 150 kg of bee honey, 1,500 coconuts, 250 kg of Kithul jaggery
and 3,700 of water among many other things.
Over 500 chefs representing all star hotels in the country were
involved in the preparation of this milk rice cooked within three and a
half hours.
The President and the First Lady were received by Media and
Communications Minister Keheliya Rambukwella followed by a cultural
troupe representing the traditional dancers and drummers. The bands of
Security Forces and the Police made a special performance on the
occasion. Special books compiled by the Information Department on the
President were also presented by Media and Communication Minister
Keheliya Rambukwella and Ministry Secretary W B Ganegala. A CD
containing the songs was also presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa
by Information Department's Director General Prof Ariyarathna Athugala. |
