President’s second swearing-in:
Warm felicitation from Mahajana Eksath Peramuna
Dinesh Gunawardena, Leader Mahajana Eksath
Peramuna, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage
A second successive resounding mandate
from the Sri Lanka voter has heralded the second era under the Executive
Presidency of His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa. This constitutes an
unreserved and unequivocal endorsement of the Governing Principals
enshrined in the Mahinda Chintana.
The pledges therein political, social, economic cultural
environmental and spiritual are being implemented or are in the process
of implementation. The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) salutes His
Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa this Man of Destiny on his
second assumption of office.
We recall with respect the humility as well as the fortitude
demonstrated by him in the face of severe discouragements and obstacles,
to put his shoulder to the task of National Construction which will last
for generations to come. In this regard the unstinted and enthusiastic
support of the vast majority of the patriotic and progressive masses
also played a pivotal role to strengthen the hand of our President in
nation building in the teeth of obstruction from both external and
internal reactionary elements.
When our president first assumed office he was confronted with many
obstacles and issues of the highest order. The liberation of the country
from the scourge of the LTTE terrorism, the unification of the country
under one banner, defeating internal and external conspiracies and
sailing through unprecedented monetary crisis in the west.
Forty years of experience in public life had equipped him with the
ability and the sagacity to guide the country through the critical
moments and commence economic development in keeping with the pledges
given to the people. His Excellency is therefore a visible embodiment of
challenge to all challenges that confront the nation.
The rapid activity and development in agriculture, irrigation,
electricity, education, health, industry, new technology, culture and
the various other project throughout the country inclusive of the
programme to make this country self sufficient are a pointer to the
tremendous progress in the country under his lowering personality.
The Hambantota Port development a harbour built after 500 years which
has become a reality to strike the imagination of all nations continue
by itself a lastly tribute to the effort and vision of this great
patriot of our times. MEP with the people of our motherland paying our
tribute and our warm greetings and wishes all success to our head of
state the exemplary son of our soil. |
