Today’s events

Sri Lanka could still keep its medal hopes alive as Mangala Samarakoon is scheduled to fire in men’s 50m rifle three-position event scheduled to be worked off at Aoti Shooting Range on Thursday morning. But the same could not be said about swimmer Heshan Unanboowe who will compete in men’s 50m backstroke first round heats on the same morning.

Among the other Lankans to be seen in action here on Thursday are Navin Samarasinghe (squash - men’s singles first round), R.M.P. Ravindra Raja (taekwondo – men’s under 80kg), Ishara Madurangi (table tennis – women’s singles pre-quarter finals), Gihan Suwaris (squash – men’s singles round one) and rowers Kanishka Jayaratne and Sanjeev de Silva in lightweight men’s doubles sculls.

In beach volleyball Sri Lanka’s men’s team (Mahesh Perera and Wasantha Ratnapala) and women’s team (Nirosha and Leena) are due to take on South Korea and Japan in their respective matches. - GUANGZHOU, Wednesday
