Big business for construction sector

The demand for hotel construction and hotel refurbishments showed an impressive improvement in the construction industry, International Construction Consortium (ICC) CEO Namal Peiris told Daily News Business.

The constructions in the leisure sector have shown an improved progress as the tourism industry is performing well. "Massive projects for new hotels and refurbishments are taking place covering all parts of the country. Although the industry is positive at present there is slow progress. However, we are optimistic about the industry, as the building industry has shown positive trends," he said. The future of the construction industry will be based on ecological sustainability and energy efficiency. Green building is an important segment in the building industry. The clients are also more concerned about the green building concepts.

ICC has performed well during this year with a third quarter growth of 10 to 15 percent compared to last year's third quarter growth. The company will be constructing two new hotel projects Chaaya Bey, Bentota and Chaaya Corals, Hikkaduwa.
