Seetha Devi, Visakha, Rajans and Zahira impress

Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Visakha Vidyalaya, Dharmaraja College and Zahira College, Matale put up impressive displays on the opening day of the all island schools girls and boys under 13 hockey championship which commenced at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday.

The matches will be continued today at 8 am. In the championship for girls Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya beat St Joseph's Balika Vidyalaya, Kegalle 4-0. I W N Jayasinghe (2), W S M Fernando (1) and P M Fernando (1) did the scoring.

Visakha Vidyalaya who are the defending joint champions beat Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya 4-0 and they also beat Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy 5-0. Zahira College, Matale who are the defending champions in the boys segment beat their home town rivals St Thomas College, Matale 2-0 (R A Dahavinum 2) and next they drubbed Royal College, Panadura 6-0.

Goal scorers were M M Iraz (1), M L Ashar (1), M F Shiraz (1), R Abdul Rahman (1), S S M Mohamed (1) and M M Mubzahir (1).

Dharmaraja College too excelled by drawing their match against St Thomas College, Mount Lavinia 0-0, and later beat Sri Sumangala College, Kandy 5-0.

Sangamitha BV drew with Girls High School 0-0, Visakha Vidyalaya beat Gothami BV, Kandy 5-0, Kalutara BV beat Sirimavo Bandaranaike BV, Matale 1-0, St Anthony's Girls College, Kandy, beat Gothami BV 4-0. Janadhipathi BV, Nawala beat Sirimavo Bandaranaike MV, Matale 5-0.

Boys

Dharmaraja College drew with S Thomas College, Mount Lavinia 0-0, Joseph Vaz College beat St Thomas College, Matale 2-1, Zahira College, Matale beat Royal College, Panadura 6-0, D S Senanayake College drew with S Thomas College, Mount Lavinia 0-0, Dharmaraja College beat Sri Sumangala College 5-0, Zahira College, Matale beat St Thomas College, Matale 2-0, Joseph Vaz College beat Royal College, Panadura 2-0, D S Senanayake College beat Sri Sumangala College, Kandy 5-0, St Thomas College, Matale beat Royal College, Panadura 3-0, St Aloysius College, Galle beat Vijaya College, Matale 2-0, St Sylvester's College beat Menikdiwela Central College 3-1, Isipatana College drew with Maris Stella College 1-1, St Sylvester's College beat Vijaya College 4-0.
