Special events to mark President’s second term

Sri Lanka Cricket has organized a series of special events to commemorate President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second term in office on November 18 at the newly constructed World Cup venue Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Sooriyawewa, Hambantota.

Cricket materials will be distributed to three District Associations from the Southern Province namely Galle, Matara and Hambantota. In addition coaches from the District will be awarded ICC endorsed coaching booklets.

A coaching program for 200 young hopefuls will also be conducted by the SLC coaching staff.

The day’s events will conclude with a six-a-side cricket encounter between the SLC coaching staff team and a team from the Hambantota District Cricket Association.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Cricket will join the rest of the nation on tree planting day which falls on November 15. Trees will be planted by SLC Officials at seven venues at the auspicious time of 10.07 am.

The venues that have been selected are R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Pallekele International Stadium, Galle International Stadium, Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Moratuwa Cricket Stadium and Welagedera Cricket Stadium in Kurunegala. CD
