More funds for Cultural Ministry

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed Finance and Planning Ministry Secretary P B Jayasundara to allocate funds for development programs of the National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Ministry, Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

She was addressing the inauguration Ceremony of the National Archives Week at the National Archives Department.

The Finance and Planning Ministry has requested for future proposals of the National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Ministry, she said.

"I have confidence that the Cultural Ministry can allocate funds from the budget for future plans," she said.

The National Archives Department has plenty of modern facilities. Future plans will be drawn up to use modern technology to preserve documents in the National Archives.

The National Archives is the place which protects every important document of the country.

This is the centre of knowledge of the country's history. This institute should be developed and modernized. The National Archives Department Director Dr Saroja Wettasinghe said the theme of the National Archives Week is "New trends in Archives". The people could gain knowledge through the archives in this institute.

Ministry Secretary Wimal Rubasinghe, Assistant Director L R Gunawardana also spoke.
