Mothers contribute much to Bhikkhu order - Governor Karunaratna
Divulgane
Walter DAYARATHNE-Anuradhapura District spl corr.
All Mahopadyas, Maha Nayakes, Anunayakas in today's Sanga Sasana are
individuals dedicated to the Sasana by their beloved mothers some time
ago. Sanga Ruwana is in existence today because of these Venerable
Theras, North Central Province Governor, Karunaratna Divulgane said.
Governor Divulgane made these observations the annual general meeting
the "Samastha Lanka Kantha Bauddha Sammelanaya" Anuradhapura branch held
at the International Buddhist Library at the Bataketthera Temple in
Anuradhapura.
The Governor said, those who do an invaluable service to the Buddha
Sasana teaching high positions in the Bhikkhu community were novices who
spent time smelling flowers in the Bo Maluwa.
It is the womenfolk who had given them strength to serve the Buddha
Sasana indefatigably.
The Buddha had treated womenfolk well. His visit to Prajapathi
Gothami, when she was about to breathe her last, was an excellent
example.
Some disciples of the Buddha to honour their mothers, had called
themselves by names linked to the names of their mothers. Arahath
Sariputtha Thera's mother's name was Sari and Arahath Mugalan Thera's
mother was Moggallala.
North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake also
spoke.
