Minister thanks State banks

Resettlement Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan thanked all State banks for the support given to the Eastern people to uplift their living standards, in particular the facilities given to repair houses of the resettled people.

He was addressing a function held at the Unichcheya Tamil Mixed School in Batticaloa where grants were distributed in line with the bankers Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR).

Both People's bank and Bank of Ceylon granted Rs 3 million each under their CSR projects. They donated material for the construction of houses and furniture and also distributed milch cows, school bags and stationery.

Fisheries and livestock industries loan facilities worth Rs 24 million were given at low interest rates to empower self-employers in farming.

This project was a concept of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa. In line with this project, 180 repaired houses were handed over to the people by the Deputy Minister. The coordinator and the raw material supplier of the project was the Sarvodaya Foundation.
