Yoda canal report presented to President
The study report on the renovation of the historical Yoda canal built
by King Dhatusena in 1003 B C was presented to President Mahinda
Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday.
The national program to renovate this 54 mile canal carrying water to
the Kala Wewa in the heart of Anuradhapura city will be inaugurated by
Yoda Ela Renovation Committee Chairman and Water Resources Management
Deputy Minister S M Chandrasena on November 16 at Siyambalawewa in
Yodawewa on the directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
This canal feeds more than 124 small tanks on its way to the Kala
Wewa and it was reduced to ruins after the country came under colonial
rule. Certain parts of this historical canal were abandoned after the
tanks in the North Central Province were fed by the Mahaweli water.
