Musical recital by Padmashri
A musical recital by "Padmashri" Dr Sirkali G Siva Chidambaram was
held at Jaffna Hindu College, playground on September 2, coinciding with
the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple annual festival. Dr Sirkali G Siva
Chidambaram is the illustrious son of carnatic music exponent,
trailblazes and colossally popular vocalico Isai Perarignar Padmashri Dr
Sirkali Govindarajan.
Apart from being a musician, he is also a physician, with a post
graduate degree in International Medicine.
Dr Sirkali G Siva Chidambaram evinced keen interest in music right
from a tender age. He inherited the musical traits under the able
guidance of his father and the rigorous whip-cord training classical
from his guru Sangeetha Viduvan B Krishnamurthy and gained more
knowledge about the nuances and subtleties of classical music.
His interest in music was so wide that he not only graduated in
classical carnatic music, but also from the Trinity College of Music,
London in the Pianoforte. Further, he has also carved comfortable niche
for himself in the hearts of the elite and the masses.
His greatest assist in his wonderfully vibrant, widely ranging,
magnetic voice over which he has perfect control in all three Octaves.
He is a popular performing artist, who has sung all over the country,
as well as the world in all prestigious occasions.
His concert tours abroad with his father and later as a Soloist have
earned him as Cultural Ambassador. He has performed for packed audiences
in UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Denmark,
Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Middle East, Seychelles and
Mauritius.
Dr Siva Chidambaram has to his credit numerous titles and awards in
appreciation of his music by several cultural organizations.
The Government of India presented with "Padmashri" Award in 2008. The
New Delhi Tamil Sangam honoured him the title of Gambeera Gana Kalanidhi,
the Annamalai University presented with Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar
Award", Rajiv Gandhi Award" was presented by the Tamil Nadu Youth
Congress. Besides, he got several titles like Pann Isai Arasu, Innisai
Vithakar, Tamil Isai Selvar, Innisai Surabhi, Gnana Isai Vendhan, Isai
Gnana Varithi and Arul Gnana Mani.
Indeed Music is a Universal Language without any barriers of race,
caste or creed and it not only entertains but gives solace and consoles
those depressed as well. In fact, I wish to quote: The man who hath no
music in himself, nor his moods concord with sweet sounds, is for
treason, stratagem and spoils, let no such man be trusted.
Undoubtedly, the tonal purity, rhythmic perfection, authentic singing
by Dr Siva Chidambaram is exciting and his stentorian voice with
mellifluous flexibility is indeed marvelous.
