Film on Safe Lamp Project
World Challenge is a prestigious global contest conducted by BBC,
Newsweek and Shell. Last year, Sri Lanka's Safe Bottle Lamp Project was
the outright winner. It is the brain child of Dr Wijaya Godakumbura and
he collected the award in Netherlands last December.
BBC produced a film entitled 'One year on' to show the project's
activities following that win. It contains statements from Secretary to
the Health Ministry Dr Ravindra Ruberu, UNICEF Child Protection
Specialist Dr Hemamal Jayawardena and Dr Godakumbura.
They would be completing the free distribution of their safe lamps,
produced with the prize money of US$ 20,000, to the people lacking
electricity by the end of this year.
They would welcome donations from various organizations to continue
their humanitarian work, which is now in the 19 year. For more
information you can check their website www.safebottlelamp.org
The telecast times of the film on their project on BBC World TV are
Saturday, November 13 at 8 am and 2 pm and Sunday, November 14 at 8 pm.
