Neethi Ranga: Lawyers on stage

Lawyers normally appear in courts but last week they appeared on
stage to perform Neethi Ranga 2010, an art festival displaying talents
of lawyers in the country as organized by the Sri Lanka Bar Association.
The event was held at Ananda College Kularatne Hall.
Chief Guest was Chief Justice Asoka N de Silva. Judges of the Supreme
Court, Judges of the Court of Appeal and several other Judicial
officers, officers attached to the Attorney General's Department, Bar
Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President President's Counsel Shibly
Aziz, BASL Deputy President Rohan Sahabandu, Secretary Mahinda B K
Lokuge, Treasurer Athula Perera, Assistant Secretary Chatura Galhena
also participated.

The curtain raiser was a song by Nandika Gunawardena of Panadura Bar
who sang Sarawathi Pooja song narration by Charles Dias.
A special feature screened at Neethi Ranga 2010 was a documentary
depicting President Mahinda Rajapaksa's contribution towards art and his
artistry while being a young lawyer. This documentary was produced by
the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.
An entertainment show to hail lawyers who displayed talents in the
stream of art was also included in the Neethi Ranga program for the
first time.
Priyani Perera of Horana, Anuradha Kumara Wijeratne of Anuradhapura,
Raveendra Ranasooriya of Gampaha, Nalin Chandrika de Silva of Attorney
General's Department, Geetha Sriyananda of Colombo, Sisira Edirisinghe
of Colombo, Hisham Faiz of Hatton, Ranjan Dahampath Jayasena of Colombo,
Disna Wickremanayake of Kurunegala, G. Wijemanna of Colombo, Sumith
Dhammika de Silva of Balapitiya, Tissa Wijesingha of Matugama Tudor
Bulathwela of Negombo enterined the audience with their scintillating
voice.
Junior vs Senior drama by Douglas Siriwardena and Prasad
Sooriyaarachchi of Colombo entertained the crowd.
Several dance programs were performed by Manahari Himamala Wickrema
of Colombo, Sammani Warnakulasooriya of Aththanagalla, Malin
Danansooriya of the Attorney General's Department and Ruwanthi Fonseka
of Colombo, Thusitha N Silva of Colombo and Nalin Chandrika de Silva of
Attorney General's Department, Nisansala Dilhani of Aththanagalla,
Pushpakanthi Abeysinghe, Sudharma Bandaratilake, Bandara Ekanayake and
Sumith Silva of Colombo Bar.
G D Perera of Panadura Bar and Srimathi Kodikara with Titus Padmasiri
and Rexy Piyadasa sang Hindi Songs while Dhanuski Abeywickrema of
Colombo Bar sang an English song.
Indika Chandrathilaka of Colombo, Geethanjalie Sumithraarchchi,
Shyama Dayaratne, Surangika Ranaweera of Kandy, Niluka Upuldeniya,
Pushpa Weerasinghe and Chirathni Dehigama of Matale Bar enterianed the
visitors with their dancing talent with a song.
The Indecent Proposal was a drama by Sisira Edirisinghe, Devapriya
Hulathduwa, Nimali Kariyawasam and A Thamarika Harashanie of the Colombo
Bar.
Amila Paranagama, Asanka Liayanage of Colombo performed on the stage
with Mallika Rodrigo de Silva of Panadura Bar. The only Tamil song was
sung by Nithyakumari Gunathilakae of Matugama Bar and T M J Tennakoon of
Galgamuwa Bar.
Music director of the Neethi Ranga 2010 was Navaratne Gamage, sounds
by Sjith Sounda. Stage Management was by Sunetha Bogahawatte, Charaka
Wijesinghe, D Susantha Kumara and Prasanna Liyanaarchchige. Stage set by
Rohan Samaradivakara and Lights arrangments by MOS Sounds and Light (Pvt)
Limited.
Comperes were Raveendranath Dabare, Shyama Fernando and Raveendra
Manoj Gamage.
The chairman and the chief organizer of the colourful Neethi Ranga
2010 was Priyani Perera of the Horana Bar who sang a beautiful song of
Rukmani Devi.
Convener was Senior Attorney Sanjey Gamage assisted by K P Fernando,
Srimathi Kodikara, Sisira Edirisinhe, Suneth Bogahwatta, Charaka
Wijesinghe, Rexy Piyadasa and Nithya Kumari Gunathilaka. |
