Fresh recital of Bharatha Natyam
Mathura Matusuthan
Bharatha Natyam recital of Indian Cultural Centre students took place
at the Indian Cultural Centre auditorium recently. The students were
trained by their Guru Subashini Pathmanathan.
The students showed their exceptional skill in this beautiful Indian
classical dance form. Most of the students, who participated in the
recital, were the students who completed only one year training at the
centre. Different age group students participated in this program. Each
student showed their own talent, ability, and their own keenness, and
involvements with their able guidance of their Guru Subashini.
Students who took part in the performance |
Pathmanathan is serving at the Indian Cultural Centre from its
inception. The program showed her full dedication, and her own efforts
and her contribution to the future generation at the centre.
Most of the students are non-Tamil speaking students. They performed
for beautiful Sabtham, keerthanams, Padams, Thillans and slogans. All of
the students showed maximum perfection in the pure Nirtha pieces, like
Alaaripu, and jeetheswaram, meanwhile they never failed to show their
ability in the abinaya, facial expressions, bava, and rasas. The program
started with Ganapathy suthi a prayer song, followed by Pushpanjali, Sai
Vanthanam, Slogan and Alaaripu. Then the students switched on to
Jeetheswaram, Sabtham, Keerthanams on Lord Nataraja and Lord Krishna,
Andal Thirupavai on Lord Krishna was an excellent piece. In addition,
after the Keerthanams, three poetic songs by the great Tamil poet
Subramania Barathi were performed by three different groups of students.
Among those three songs, one song was about the beauty, integrity, and
unity of India.
Even one Sinhala padam was performed by one of the senior student it
was an enjoyable piece and revealed the rhythmic movements, and the
style of interpretation of the meaning of the padam, which was
excellent.
The program concluded with two different Thillanas, one was in the
raga Kannada, set to Aathi thala, and other was in the Parasu raga set
to Aathi thala.
Their interpretation of the songs was very meaningful and attractive.
The students showed their graceful expressions and they showed firm
skill in thala and laya. For most of the students this program was their
maiden performance yet they performed as professional artistes, may be
due to their vigorous training and their deep keen interest, and
dedication to master this dance form. |
