Bolivia promotes pro-nature pacts within ALBA
Bolivia: Environmental authorities in Bolivia ratified
Wednesday that they are promoting agreements with their counterparts of
the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) to prevent
nature from being turned into merchandise.
Environment Deputy Minister Cinthya Silva expressed her confidence
that those objectives will be achieved in the meeting of constitution of
the Ministerial Committee in Defence of Nature, started today in La Paz.
"Despite difficulties and some contradictions, the Plurinational State
of Bolivia is implementing laws to discuss, constitute and join forces
to defend Mother Earth and that strategy is the foundation of that
deployed in the international scene," she told Prensa Latina.
In her inaugural presentation at the meeting, attended by
representatives from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Bolivia,
Silva suggested to discuss the Bolivian proposal to present results in
the UN Summit on Climate Change to be held in Cancun, Mexico.
The initiative recognizes the existence of common resources and basic
services in Mother Earth, which must be fairly respected and managed for
the good of all and not as merchandise.
It is based on the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother
Earth, adopted by the First World Conference of the Peoples on Climate
Change, held on Tiquipaya, Cochabamba, in April 2010. La Paz, Prensa
