Heroin haul in Negombo

Negombo Police seized a haul of heroin worth Rs 25 million yesterday
and arrested five suspects including a drug kingpin.
The Negombo Police seized two kgs of heroin and 500 g of a particular
chemical mixed with heroin. The Kingpin arrested by the Police in
Grandpass is alleged to be a close relative of Kimbula Ele Guna who is
already in prison and is notorious for drug trafficking.
The suspects were from Nawagampura in Grandpass, Peliyagoda, Wattala
and two in Negombo.
The Police said on a tip off, a drug addict was arrested in Negombo
with six packets each containing 420 mg of heroin. With the information
received from the previous suspect, a trader was arrested by the Police
with 490 g of heroin in his possession. Thereafter, another provider was
arrested in Wattala with 80 packets each including 2.75 g of heroin.
With the information received from those suspects Police arrested
another dealer with 22 g of heroin.
The drug kingpin was finally arrested and 2 kg of heroin and 500 g of
the chemical was seized at 4 am yesterday.
Police said the value of the heroin seizure is around Rs 25 million.
The suspects were arrested by a team from the Negombo Police including
Negombo Police HQI Chief Inspector Somasiri Liyanage, Sub Inspectors
Mahinda, Chamara, Wijesundara, Police sergeants Gunawardene, Fernando,
Nishmi and Police Constables Perera, Chaturanga.
Negombo Police are conducting investigations. |
