Dheerasinghe gets Honorary Fellowship
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka Deputy Governor K G D D Dheerasinghe
was awarded Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka Honorary Fellowship at its
convocation held recently. This honour was conferred on Dheerasinghe in
recognition of his contribution to the development of the financial
industry and financial education in Sri Lanka.

Dheerasinghe who started his career in Bank of Ceylon in 1975 joined
the Central Bank in 1976 and served in senior capacities in Economic
Research, Statistics, Bank Supervision, Information Technology and
Public Debt Departments prior to his appointment as Public Debt
Superintendent in 2001.
He was appointed as Assistant Governor in 2004 and Deputy Governor in
charge of Economic and Price Stability in May 2009. He was also
Alternate Executive Director for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Sri Lanka
at the International Monetary Fund from August 2007 to January 2010.
He was a visiting lecturer at Sri Jayawardenapura, Kelaniya and
Moratuwa Universities, the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and
Institute of Management of Sri Lanka.
He was also an examiner and moderator at the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Sri Lanka. He also has served as a Member of the Council
of Sri Jayawardenapura University and Director, Fitch Ratings Lanka Ltd.
Currently he is the Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee and
Sovereign Rating Committee at the Central Bank. He has published widely
on economics and banking both in Sri Lanka and abroad.
He has made a pioneering contribution to the establishment of Primary
Dealer System in Sri Lanka and introduction of Treasury Bonds and Sri
Lanka Development Bonds.
He is a graduate of Colombo University where he has obtained BCom and
BPhil (Economics) securing first class honours and a Master's Degree in
Economics from UK's Leeds University.
