Bernard Perera in Minneriya
The Gunner Super Cross 2010 - the final stage of the CEAT-SLARDAR
Championship for the year 2010 concluded yesterday at the Minneriya
Gunner Track on a grand note. It became a great day for Pasindu Peiris
who won four events to make it a record. Pasindu who was chasing for the
championship in the CEAT 1600cc class had no difficulty in winning both
events yesterday. These two victories assured him the championship for
this class.
In addition these two victories Pasindu had a field day in the SL-GT
3500cc class winning the two events conducted on this day. This added 20
points to his tally but was short of a single point to go above the
leader Aravinda Premadasa.
Premadasa who was placed third in race one and second in race two
collected 14 valuable points to be the winner of the SL-GT 3500cc class
championship. Though Pasindu recorded two good wins could not go past
Aravinda Premadasa on the points table, but was adjudged as the Best
Driver of the Gunner Super Cross 2010.
Meanwhile in the two wheeler category the rider from India, C S
Santosh who posed a big threat to Gayan Sandaruwan came up with flying
colours winning both championship races yesterday.
The local hero, Gayan was placed second in race one and in the second
was placed third. Though Gayan failed to beat his opponent in both races
managed to hold onto his top position to be the champion rider for
CEAT-SLARDAR title as the points he gained yesterday kept him on top.
Meanwhile Gayan’s brother Jayana Sandaruwan too made good use of the
track to win the first race for under 16 and later was placed second in
the following race.
The 18 points collected by him yesterday made him as the CEAT-SLARDAR
champion in this category. With both Gayan and Jayana, the brothers have
made a clean sweep of the motorcycle category and will see them carry
both championship trophies to a single housing. This could be a record
for motor racing in Sri Lanka.
