Brilliant SC take Premier League Division Two title

Brilliant SC emerged Division Two champions of the Dialog Premier League when they defeated Super Beach SC, Kalutara in a penalty tie-breaker by 6-5 points in one of the toughest finishes in history at the CR and FC Ground, Colombo yesterday. Both teams failed to score at full time. But at the penalty shoot-out, the guys from Ampara were one step ahead of the boys from Kalutara.

They had the better of the continuation of the penalty shootout and were able to turn the game in their favour, providing the best soccer fare for the spectators.

Brilliant SC came into the match having remained undefeated throughout their 12 league game campaign.

They also had the advantage of beating Super Beach SC during the earlier stages of the tournament.

On their way to the final, Super Beach were too good for the Soccer Fan SC who got beaten 5-0, Mawanella United who lost 2-1 and Jetliners SC, who lost by three goals to nil.

The champions remained unbeaten, defeating Highline SC 2-1, the runner-up Super Beach SC 1-0, United SC 2-0, Soccer Fan 2-0 and Jetliners 2-0 but the significant thing was that they had never exceeded a tally of two goals throughout their Premier League campaign.

In addition to the glory of winning the Premier League, the Brilliant guys took away a cash prize of Rs 250,000, while the runner-up Super Beach SC bagged a sum of Rs 100,000.

Both these teams have advanced to the next level and will play in Division One next year.
