Fatal blow from bat

An argument that went too far resulted in a youth dealing a fatal
blow with a bat on his younger brother in Mahawela, Matale.
The incident occurred at around 9 pm Saturday. The victim is A G
Saman Mahinda from Kandewatte, Mahawela. According to police, the victim
had initially caused damage to the vehicles of his father and brother by
attacking the vehicles with a knife.
Norochcholai fire under control
A fire that erupted at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant was brought
under control yesterday, authorities said. No workers were injured while
no major damage was also reported. The work on the plant is expected to
be completed on schedule, they added.
Sri Lankan refugees returning from India rise
There is an increase in the number of Sri Lankan refugees returning
home from camps in Tamil Nadu, latest statistics with the United Nations
(UN) has shown. This is being seen as the result of the conflict having
ended 17 months ago. Earlier this week, 67 people returned home with the
help of the UN High Commissioner of Refugees (UNHCR).
“This group arrived two days ago. They had approached the UNHCR India
for help.
We received them at the airport and gave them a small travel grant,”
an UNHCR official in Colombo said.
According to Indian government statistics, till July 2010, there were
71,654 Lankan refugees in India living in 112 camps and 32,467 living
outside.
