Govt to control fish prices

The Government will not let individual fish mudalalis to set the ceiling of fish prices at the cost of consumers having to suffer buying them at high prices. Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratna said the Government will control fish prices as it plans to ensure that the consumers get fish at reasonable prices.

“Although it is the fish merchant that sets fish prices it will soon be state owned Fisheries Corporation that will set fish prices in the near future,” Dr Senaratna said.

He said, the earnings by fish sold out by the Corporation’s fish retail outlets have increased considerably over the past three months. The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry will increase its retail outlets to 250.
