Army cleans Kandy
A series of community-oriented clean-up campaigns organized by the
Army were conducted in Kandy area as a precursor to the forthcoming 61st
Anniversary commemoration of the Army and Army Day October 10.
Kandy-based 11 Division Headquarters, commanded by Major General Mano
Perera has launched a massive Shramadana Campaign for clean-up of moats,
drains and areas surrounding the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Four Maha Devala
premises, St Paul's Cathedral, Pulleyar Kovil and the Meera Makkam
Mosque as the first phase on the instructions of the Army Commander
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. Army personnel, Drawn from all
field formations deployed in North, East.
West and South participated in this project with the support,
received from the office of the Central Province Governor, the Chief
Minister, the District Secretary, Kandy Municipal council Environmental
Affairs Provincial Ministry and the Sri Dalada Maligawa by way of
equipment required for the task.
The Shramadana Campaign, the biggest ever to have been organized in
Kandy with the participation of more than 500 Army personnel continued
through out the week started from September 20.
