Active participation of the rural Development institutes is an
essential factor in the implementation of rural development programs
carried out by the Government, said Central Province Governor Tikiri
Kobbakaduwa.
The Governor expressed these views at the function held in Governor's
office, Kandy to issue appointment letters to 20 Rural Development
Officers (RDOs) and Textile and Sewing Instructors recently.
He said Sri Lanka has embarked on a new journey toward development.
Therefore Rural Development Officers have more responsibility towards
development.
The Governor recalled that before 2005 our public service functioned
to the tune of the World Bank. They wanted to curtail our public sector
to 600,000.
The United National Party had made all arrangements to fulfill World
Bank requirements. Today public sector employees have been able to
secure their jobs under President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Several Provincial Ministers and Ministry officials also
participated.
