EPU's to strengthen environment protection

The Central Environment Authority (CEA) will be coordinating with Environment Police Units (EPU) all over the island to strengthen environment protection activities conducted in the country, said CEA Chairman Charitha Herath.

He was addressing an awareness program for EPU police personnel held at the CEA auditorium yesterday.

"The CEA has established Provincial branches in every province. The Provincial Directors in these branches should coordinate with Regional Police officers to halt illegal activities that harm the environment. Police has the necessary power to intervene at urgent situations. CEA has the legal provisions to protect the environment. If both these institutions can get together and work, the environment protection will be highly successful" he said.
