Govt recruits 6,724 teachers

The Education Ministry will recruit 6,724 graduates and college of education diploma holders to the teachers service prior to the budget.

Accordingly, 3,724 graduates and 3000 Colleges of Education Diploma holders will be recruited to the teachers service. Out of 3,724 graduate appointments 550 will be recruited as English medium graduates while the balance 3,174 will be recruited as Aesthetic teachers. The recruiting 3,000 diploma teachers will be deployed to teach upto Ordinary Levels, the Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.

The English medium appointments and diploma holders appointments will be given on October 5, on World Teachers Day. The Education Ministry will hold a competitive test on October 9 to recruit Aesthetic teachers. In accordance with the result of this test, the successful candidates will be absorbed to the teachers service prior to the budget. English medium graduates will be deployed in teaching Advanced Level subjects in National Schools.

The result of the competitive test for Aesthetic teachers will be issued to Provincial Councils together with the result of the English medium graduate teachers recruiting test held earlier. The Provincial Councils can then utilise the results when teachers are recruited by them in future.
