Post graduate research on physiology will enhance the medical sector
in Sri Lanka. These findings should be socialized and that would help to
cure several diseases and illnesses existing in Sri Lanka, said
Technology and Research Minister Prof. Tissa Vitarana addressing the
43rd annual Academic Sessions of the Ceylon College of Physicians (CCP)
held at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo.
"The reasons for most diseases and illnesses are environmental
issues. These days several respiratory diseases are spreading in the
Kandy District. There are various kidney diseases in the North Central
Province. All these are because of environmental issues. Urbanization,
vehicle emission gases and various intoxicated chemical usage have
caused illnesses related to the respiratory system. Hence there is a
possibility of Asthma increasing in Sri Lanka", he said.
It has identified that medical research is important to enhance the
quality of the medical sector. Physicians in Sri Lanka have a big
responsibility and continues medical research in these areas will find
the ways to minimize these diseases.
There are no sufficient physicians in Sri Lanka and the figure should
be increase in the future he said.
Royal College of Physicians London President, Sir Richard Thompson
and members of the Ceylon College of Physicians were present.
The CCP which was started in 1967 is committed to excellence in
medical care in Sri Lanka and have more than 600 members. |
