FITIS hosts Infotel 2010 Sri Lanka ICT Expo
Sri Lanka’s flagship ICT Expo, the Infotel 2010 will be held from
October 1 to 4. The inauguration ceremony and Infotel Forum was held at
the BMICH yesterday.
This event is organized by the Federation of Information Technology
Industry of Sri Lanka (FITIS).
A series of programs parallel to that of the Infotel 2010 Sri Lanka
ICT Expo have been organized to coincide with the National ICT week
2010.
This will be the tenth in the series and the exhibition has now
expanded to include software developers and IT trainers and has even
gone beyond boundaries to feature areas such as office automation and
the telecommunication sector which too has become part and parcel of the
ICT world.
Speaking on the main objectives of this year’s Infotel 2010, Infotel
Society Chairman Dr Ruvan Weerasinghe said, “As Sri Lanka is poised for
a new chapter of accelerated growth, this year’s Infotel theme is named
as ‘IT’s About Growth’, which epitomizes the vital role of IT in
building Sri Lanka’s new economy.
Infotel 2010 offers an ideal platform for ICT stakeholders in Sri
Lanka and the neighbouring South Asian Region to explore and capitalize
the new growth and wealth creation opportunities in the country.
“One of the key highlights of the Infotel 2010 Expo is the
participation of global telecommunications giants. Although this is a
biannual event we are now planning to host this event on an annual
basis, Dr Weerasinghe said.
This year’s Infotel Expo will be unique as it will not be limited to
a show that showcases ICT products and gadgets but will be an event that
will benefit many types of stakeholders such as the corporate and all
other parties concerned where IT will be of use to them,” he said.
There will be many aspects introduced to stimulate and encourage
participation.
The annual International IT Conference (IITC) has been re-branded
this year as the International Conference on Advances in ICT for
Emerging Regions (ICTer) 2010 and will be held concurrently with the
Infotel Expo and other ICT event of the ICT week.
Ten keynote speakers from around the globe have already confirmed
participation and more than 30 of the best papers submitted will be
presented by authors from Sri Lanka and overseas,” Dr Weerasinghe said.
Infotel 2010 Organizing Committee Chairman A Jayaseelan said FITIS
Young Computer Scientist (YCS) Awards as well as National Best Quality
Software Awards organized by the British Computer Society Sri Lanka (BCS)
will also be conducted parallel to the Infotel 2010 Sri Lanka ICT Expo. |
