Anagi goes solo
Well known as a popular soprano soloist with choral societies in
Colombo, Anagi Perera will present her debut voice recital of operatic
arias, art songs and Broadway at the Russian Cultural Centre on October
1 at 7.30pm.

She will be accompanied by Menaka de Fonseka Sahabandu and the
programme will also feature guest performances by Laknath Seneviratne
(Bass-Baritone), Satish Casie Chetty (Violin) and the Menaka Singers.
Titled Amigos Para Siempre (Friends for Ever) the recital is in aid
of the Child without Sorrow Foundation (CWS) for underprivileged
children of Sri Lanka.
Highlights of the program include arias from Mozart’s Marriage of
Figaro, Gluck’s Paris and Helen and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi; as well
as songs by Lotti, Rossini, Gabriel Faure, Cesar Franck, Andrew Lloyd
Webber, Rodgers and Hammerstein and others.
Anagi has appeared as the soprano soloist in Camerata Musica chamber
choir’s performances of Haydn’s Little Organ Mass, Mozart’s Requiem,
Purcell’s Funeral Music for Queen Mary, Vivaldi’s Gloria, J S Bach’s
Jesu, Meine Freude and Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C major. She has also
sung as a soloist with the Colombo Philharmonic Choir.
Anagi’s love for singing began as a member of the choir of Methodist
College. She started her voice training under the late Kalasuri Lylie
Godridge at the age of eight, continued with Ruwani Siemanan, and is
currently studying with Menaka de Fonseka Sahabandu. She has won many
prizes for singing, obtaining the highest marks in the Island for the
ATCL examination in December 2001, and is now a Licentiate of the
Trinity College of Music London.
