Kandy District VB tourney

Over 400 spikers from the Kandy District will be seen in action when the annual Kandy District Inter Divisional Secretariat Volleyball championship organized by the Kandy District Volleyball Association gets underway at Municipal Grounds, Getambe, Kandy this Saturday and Sunday with the matches commencing at 8.30 am each day.

This tournament will be played under the patronage of Kandy District Parliamentarian Dilum Amunugama who is also the president of the Kandy District Volleyball Association.

Amunugama said that steps will be taken to improve the standard of Volleyball in the district. This game is not a very expensive sport and could be played in a small area which could be maintained at a very low cost. Thus more people in the villages as well as in the town should take to this game as it’s advantages are many.

It is good to note some of the leading schools have taken to this game and the sports officers have a duty to expand this game to other schools which should serve as a nursery.

A total of 22 men and 22 women teams will take part in this two day competition.

Deputy Minister and Badulla District Parliamentarian Dilan Perera will be the chief guest at the Awards ceremony on the second day.
