Pivituru Lanka - Soba Lanka program:

Over 1.1 m trees to be planted

Under "Pivituru Lanka- Soba Lanka" national tree planting campaign to celebrate the 65th birthday of President Mahinda Rajapaksa 1.1million plants are to be planted covering the whole island, said Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa. A discussion in this regard was chaired by Minister Yapa at the Ministry premises yesterday with the participation of Provincial Council Chief Ministers, the Environment Minister's Secretary RHS Samaratunga and Central Environment Authority Chairman Charitha Herath. Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayeka was appointed as the chief organizer of this national program. Ekanayake believes this program would create a Guinness record. This program will also pave way for carbon trade within the next ten years.
