The police has set up a new unit at the Police Headquarters to wipe-out the hard drug and illegal distillery menace from the country. This is being done on the direction of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Senior DIG N K Ilangakoon will be incharge of this special unit while DIG Anura Senanayake has been appointed the Unit’s Director. SP Ravindra Karawita will conduct investigations to ascertain suspects involved in the hard drug and illegal distillery racket in the 42 police divisions.

This special unit will also investigate to nab locals and foreigners involved in this racket.

A special telephone number will be announced to contact this special unit to provide information, DIG Senanayake said.
