Lankan cinema looking up - Sumithra Peries

Film producer Sumithra Peries Saturday said Sri Lankan cinema is looking up.

“Earlier, cinema halls were closed and people were scared to go to the movies. Cinema has suffered a lot due to lack of opportunities during the rebellion period,” said the 75- year-old director in Goa, India. “However, things are changing for better now. Like other countries, we too are going digital. We can make much more meaningful movies now. In my opinion, we can talk across borders through this medium,” Peries said.

She is in Goa to take part in the South Asian Film Festival which began Thursday.
