More power though bio gas plants

Electricity generation from bio gas plants will be the mainstay of
future power generation in Sri Lanka. Northern and North Eastern
Provinces will be the foundation for bio gas power generation, said
Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Ranawaka said the Ministry has already placed action to meet the
total electricity demand in the two provinces by constructing biomass
based dendro power plants.
Ranawaka said this in Trincomalee after inspecting a recently
constructed 10 Megawatt capacity biomass power plant, which is located
near the famous Tokyo Cement factory in the district.
The Ministry plans to increase the electricity volume supplied to
Northern and North Eastern Provinces with biomass based power
generation.
Electricity production will be increased from present 10 mw to 20 mw
to with dendro power in the coming years, he added.
Bio gas energy projects that use coconut shells, husks and gliricidia
fuel wood to generate power will be the basis for meeting future energy
demands, he said. |
