Water Supply and Drainage Ministry launches new
projects:
Drinking water for NCP

The National water Supply and Drainage Board which comes under the
purview of Water Supply and Drainage Ministry will launch drinking water
supply projects in the North Central Province (NCP) as a remedy for the
increasing kidney diseases there, Water Supply and Drainage Ministry
Media Coordinator Lalith Rohana Liyanage said.
According to Liyanage several drinking water supply projects have
already been commenced in the province by the Board. The Ministry is now
planning to establish a special fund for water under the direction of
Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. The fund will
assist to protect water and provide drinking water for rural people.
The provincial council institutions and community based organizations
will have access to this fund. A special discussion on drinking water
supply projects in the NCP was held in Anuradhapura recently. Minister
Gunawardena, Deputy Minister W B Ekanayake, Finance Ministry Secretary
Dr. P B Jayasundara and other officials attended the discussion, he
said.
During the meeting Minister Gunawardena had stressed the importance
of working according to a proper time table and a plan. Completing work
of all projects on time saves public funds. The officials should be
creative to work effectively. Minister Gunawardena had also pointed out
that the country has historical capabilities and technologies to be
creative. |
