Wattala BC snatch thrilling 65-63 win
Chris DHAMBARAGE
Wattala BC “A” put up a tremendous performance to snatch a thrilling
65 points to 63 points victory over Otters BC in their Carlton Cup 2010
inter club basketball tournament match worked off at the Depot Police
Courts in Bambalapitiya yesterday.
Wattala BC took a one point lead at half time (31-30) and then held
their nerves during the latter stages of the game to pull off an
exciting victory at the end. Their two most experienced players Kevin
Vivekshan (14) and Manjula Jayaratne (14) did most of the scoring and
also excelled in defence. Otters BC of course rallied around through the
individual brilliance of Gayan Meedeniya (23) who had a terrific game
but only Thisara Chaturanga (11) providing any real support towards
their cause.
Police beaten
Meanwhile Carlton “Blues” pulled off a good 68-61 victory over Sri
Lanka Police BC “B” after the scores had been level 28 all at half time.
Terrence Denzil (19) and Dhammika Perera (14) produced a fine
all-round performance for Carlton “Blues” while Nuwan Jeevantha (13) and
D Greig (17) figured in a vain effort for Police BC.
Easy for NYSC
National Youth Services Council cruised to a convincing 80-59 victory
over Sri Jayewardenepura University BC after leading 44-24 at half time
in a one sided encounter played at the same venue.
Gerald Jacob (27) led the way while R Zain (18) and Abdul Abubakar
(18) provided the back up support for the winners. Joy Fernando (22) and
Kasun Perera (17) were the main contributors for Sri Jayewardenepura
University BC.
