Second Court Martial: Fonseka found guilty

The second Court Martial that examined charges against former Army
Commander Sarath Fonseka on contravention of military procurement
procedures in tender procedures found him guilty on all charges
yesterday.

Hulugalla addressing a media briefing said that the recommendations of
the second Court Martial against Fonseka have been sent to President
Mahinda Rajapaksa for approval.
After the President’s approval, the punishments will be carried out,
he said.
The second Court Martial comprised Major General M P Peiris RWP RSP
USP ndc psc (President-CM), Major General S W L Daulagala RSP USP and
Major General M. Hathurusinghe RSP IG.
Rear Admiral W W J S Fernando served as Judge Advocate. Fonseka was
charged on four counts over the alleged military equipment deal with
Hycorp Company which was headed by his son-in-law Danuna Thilakarathna.
Four charges included purchasing of night vision equipment, generators,
batteries and VHF direction founders.
He has violated the military tender procedure by exceeding his powers
as the Army Commander, Hulugalla said. |
