Medicos on a car wash?
Diriya Aruna is a social service project, conducted annually by each
successive batch of Jayawardenapura Medical Faculty since 1998, along
with the Medical Faculty Students' Union. They raise funds and donate a
complete school building, books, stationery items to a selected
underprivileged, needy school in the country.
This time, for the 13th consecutive year, this altruistic annual
community service project will be carried out under the guidance of the
Medical Faculty Student Union, by the 19th batch.
The credit goes to a group of students with revolutionary ideas from
the 7th batch of the faculty in 1998, who passed on the concept of the
Welcome dinner dance for the new coming batch, investing that large sum
of money for Diriya Aruna.
They visited the Katubedda border village in Polonnaruwa, where
students were striving to gain a good education amidst the chaos of war,
and distributed new books, school uniforms and shoes among them.
Diriya Aruna has now grown into a large tree, spreading its branches
far and wide. Each successive batch adds something more to what their
seniors had done previously.
