Police investigate spate of motorcycle robberies

Police arrested seven youth belonging to two separate gangs early
this week. These gangs steal motorcycles and sell them. The Police
seized seven motorcycles worth more than Rs one million, stolen by the
gangs.
Wariyapola Police on Monday arrested a five member gang and seized
six motorcycles stolen by them. The Vavunia Police on Tuesday arrested
two suspects and seized a motorcycle which had been allegedly stolen by
them.
Police said that there were complaints made about motorcycles in the
Wariyapola area been stolen by an organized gang. The Police arrested
the alleged gang that committed the crimes. The suspects were residents
from the Wariyapola, Hettipola and Kuliyapitiya areas.
Kuliyapitiya Police were able to locate six stolen motorbikes on
information received from the suspects. Five were Discovery motorcycles
and the other one was a Pulsar. Investigations are being conducted to
find out if there were any other motor cycles stolen by them.
Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody told the Daily News that a
person lodged a complaint that his motorcycle worth of Rs 125,000 was
stolen on Tuesday in front of a boutique in Vavunia town. The Police
arrested two persons in front of the Vavunia bus stand on the same day
with the same motorcycle. Vavunia Police are conducting further
investigations.
