China’s 61st anniversary celebrations
The 61st anniversary celebrations of the founding of the People’s
Republic of China (PRC) organized by the Sri Lanka China Society will be
held on September 23 at 4 pm at the Bandaranaike Centre for
International Studies (BCIS) auditorium with Chinese Ambassador Yang
Xiuping as the Chief Guest.
The key note address will be delivered by Dr Saman Kelegama on
“China-Sri Lanka Economic Relations - a way forward.”
The winners of the three inter school essay competitions in Sinhala,
Tamil and English will receive cash prizes. A booklet Notes on Travel in
China-II will also be released at the end of the forum.
EngEx 2010
Engineering exhibition ‘EngEx 2010’ organized by the Peradeniya
University’s Engineering faculty to mark the 60th anniversary of the
University’s Engineering Faculty will be held at the Peradeniya
University premises from September 17 to 22.
The opening ceremony will be held on September 16 at 2.00 p.m. at the
E O E Pereira Auditorium of the Engineering Faculty with the
participation of Japanese Ambassador Kunio Takahashi.
Getabaru Esala Perahera

The annual Esala Perahera of Getabaru Raja Maha Viharaya’s Rajjuru
Bandara Dewale, Kotapola will begin on September 18 with Peli Perahera
and will conclude with Deva Dana on September 24. The annual fancy fair
will also be held at the Getabaru junction during the festival season.
Bus-trishaw collision:
Woman dies

A woman died and five other injured were admitted to hospital when a
private bus and a three-wheeler collided at Ahangama on the Galle road
early this week.
The bus was plying on the Matara-Colombo bus route. It met with the
accident on its way from Matara. According to Police, the collision
occurred when the bus attempted to overtake the three-wheeler.
The three-wheeler driver who was in a critical condition and four
others were admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital.
Annual summit
Ishara MUDUGAMUWA
The 12th annual summit of the Agriculture Department will be held on
September16 and 17 at the Plant Genetic Resource Centre, Gannoruwa under
the patronage of the Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane.
The Agriculture Department has taken measures to select the Most
Talented Scientist of the Year, Most Talented Researcher of the Year and
Most Talented Agricultural Scientist of the Year in line with the annual
summit. As three years have been completed since the launching of the
Api Wawamu Rata Nagamu local food production drive progress of the
program will be discussed at the summit, said a department official.
Agriculture Deputy Minister Jagath Pushpakumara, Secretary to the
Prime Minister S. Amarasekara, Agriculture Ministry Secretary K. E.
Karunathilake will participate.
Appointed Advisor
Basnayake Nilame for the Natha Devala in Kandy and Mahiyangana Maha
Saman Devala Ananda Heenkenda has been appointed as an Advisor to the
Ministry of Justice by Justice Minister Athauda Seneviratne.
Aloka Poojawa
The annual Aloka Poojawa of the Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya will
be held on Sunday, September 19 at 6 pm at the Saman Devalaya Vihara
premises.
Photographic exhibition
An exhibition of photography by the 'BOC Children's Network' will be
held at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery on Saturday, September 18 and
Sunday, September 19.
Twelve members of the 'BOC Children's Network' will exhibit
photographs on themes such as nature, wild life, portraits etc.
BOC Children's Network comprises of the children of the employees as
well as Bank of Ceylon pensioners and this is the second program of this
Network, the first being an evening of drama and music - Swara Rangana -
that was held at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre on the August 29.
AGM
The Colombo Rubber Buyers' Association (CRBA) 76th Annual General
Meeting and the Annual Dinner will be held at the Capri Club, Colombo 3
Tuesday September 21 commencing 7.30 p.m.
Child Protection Society AGM
The 82nd Annual General Meeting of the Child Protection Society of
Ceylon will be held Friday September 24 at 4.30 p.m at the Auditorium of
the "Olympic House" at No. 100/9F, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7.
The Meeting will be presided by the Child Protection Society
President S.S. Wijeratne, the High Commissioner for Australia Kathy
Klugman, will be the Chief Guest.
Kandy Bash ‘Twenty10’
The annual event “Kandy Bash” organized by Kandy Schools’ Past
Pupils’ Association, Colombo Branch (KSPPA) will be held on September 18
at the CR and FC grounds, Colombo 7 from 10 a.m. onwards.
KSPPA represents 12 leading schools in Kandy. About 1,000
participants are expected to attend it.
This eventful day will comprise number of activities, social events
followed by a musical fiesta which will be well attended by the Past
Pupils of Kandy schools along with their families to promote as one
entity national programs. |
