Program for better O-L results

The Education Ministry has taken measures to increase the number of passes at the next G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination by about 20 percent. Only 54 percent of the students passed the examination last year.

Under this program, the Education Ministry has advised relevant principals to conduct extra classes for students every Saturday.

It is compulsory for Principals to arrange these extra classes until the commencement of the examination in December. Core subjects including Mathematics, Science, History, First Language and English should be taught in extra classes while paying an special attention on other subjects.

Principals can obtain the services of teachers in the school as resource persons or they can get the service of outside resource persons to conduct classes.

In line with this initiative, the Examinations Department has prepared a set of model question papers for the Ordinary Level Examination. These model question papers are in a Compact Disk which has already been distributed among schools.

Students will be trained using model question papers about how to manage time, the way to answer questions, the nature of question papers and so on.
