New strain of chillie plant

The Thinnavely Agricultural Farm and Research centre has introduced a new strain of Chillie plant named G1 Green among chillie cultivators in Jaffna.

"This new strain has been tried at the Thinnavely farm and found suitable for tropical regions," said Jaffna Agricultural and Research Centre Officer in Charge S Wijeratnam.

She said when compared with the other strains like M 3 2 and K P 2 this new strain can withstand pest attacks and give a rich yield of chillies of 10 centimetres long and three centimetre girth.
