Await JUMP
JUMP brings the best of Korean martial arts to stage. It will
showcase the country’s rich traditions as well as talent to Sri Lanka
The Korean Embassy in Sri Lanka and National Heritage and Cultural
Affairs Ministry of Sri Lanka co-host the Korean Cultural Performance
Jump on September 16 and 17 at 7.30 pm at Ananda College (Kularatne
Hall), Colombo.
Comedy mixed with martial arts |
JUMP is a non-verbal, comic martial arts performance expertly
blending Asian martial arts, including the ancient Korean martial arts
of Taekwondo with acrobatics and slapstick comedy. It was performed in
many famous venues including the Broadway of New York (2007-2008),
Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2005-2006), Peacock Theatre in London’s West
End (2006-2009), etc.
Romance and music merged together |
Set in a typical Korean home, JUMP is centered on a dramatically
agile, Korean family from the authoritarian grandfather, drunken uncle
and Taekwondo-hopping mother to the incongruous daughter’s suitor. When
the family discovers the intruders, a mighty battle ensues. What follows
is an incredible display of acrobatic and martial arts skills, with a
large amount of slapstick humour...
The event is presented by YEGAMTheatre Company which is known for
putting together work of exceptional sense of comic martial arts
performances. YEGAM is one of the first production companies
specializing in non-verbal live performances. Since the company
established in 2003, YEGAM has been successful in bringing out two
exceptional theatre productions JUMP and BREAKOUT.
JUMP won many accolades including the award for the Best Venture
Company in 2008. It also clinched the award for the Best Performing Arts
of Korea by Culture Sports and Tourism Ministry in 2008.
Korean Ambassador Choi Ki-chul noted that this opportunity would
contribute to the cultural exchange between Sri Lanka and Korea. The
event is hosted by the Korean Embassy and National Heritage and Cultural
Affairs Ministry and is sponsored by the Korea foundation. |
