Two die in road accidents on Katugastota-Kurunegala road

Two accidents on the Katugastota-Kurunegala road Saturday has resulted in the death of two persons while five others were injured.

The injured were admitted to the Kandy General Hospital.

The first death was caused when a tipper truck collided with a car at Nugawela, instantly killing a person in the car. Two others, including a Buddhist monk have been injured seriously. The deceased has been identified as H M Dissanayake of Wariyapola.

The driver has fled and is absconding. Police have taken into custody the owner of the tipper truck and two others, who were later remanded till September 14 by Kandy Magistrate Lalith Ekanayake.

In another accident at Hedeniya a pedestrian has been knocked down by a motorcyclist. While the pedestrian had died, both the motorcyclist and the pillion rider were injured. The injured have been admitted to the Kandy General Hospital.

Police said that the motorcyclist was an Airman without a valid motorcycle riding licence.

Katugastota Traffic OIC IP Sujeewa Gunatilleke and a team of police officers are continuing further investigations.
