WFB to honour President, Thai King

Along with the 25th General Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) and the 60th anniversary, the executive committee has decided to honour President Mahinda Rajapaksa as an excellent Buddhist leader in the world.

They have also decided to honour to King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The WFB General Conference will be held from November 14-17, at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo and Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

The WFB Business Forum will be held November 15.

Forty one Buddhist countries will participate. Organizers expect 600 representatives.

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said this event will be a good opportunity to expand the message of 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi anniversary all over the country.

Addressing a press conference at Prime Minister’s office yesterday, he said the WFB conference is not only a religious event.

“It is a good opportunity to boost the country’s economy. This event will dispel wrong information spread about Sri Lanka,” he said.

Prime Minister Jayaratne officially confirmed that the WFB Conference will hold its session in Sri Lanka in 2010. He made the deceleration while officially launching the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress website yesterday.
